Tuesday, July 14th, 2015 – Electric Lights in the Southern Hemisphere and Snowball Fights

At Maggie's with Allan.
Replica of a first electric light in Reefton.
View from Saint James Walkway short hike.
Snowball fight!
We had our last brekkie with Allan at Maggie’s Kitchen in Greymouth before winding our way back east across New Zealand along Lewis Pass.  Along the way, we stopped in Reefton (known for being the first town in the Southern Hemisphere with electric lights), to have a snowball fight and check out the Elfin Forest at the Saint James Walkway, and for tea time at Culverden, before we got back to Lincoln.  We arrived safe and sound and just in time for dinner.  Tired and happy are we all and hoping that the New Horizon’s spaceship has a good bit of data for us over night.  Rest up everyone!  LOTS more good adventuring to be had.  m&m : )

P.S.  Something that makes you go, hmmmm... as we neared the north side of Christchurch this afternoon we had the students consider that we had just spent almost five full days without seeing any traffic lights.  Amazing that the small, uncrowded two lane roads here are the highways and that most small towns just have a round about or two to manage traffic.
